Customer:
Large international aerospace and defense company
Challenge:
The customer had encountered significant difficulty in successfully manufacturing an infrared lens with EMI/RFI shielding characteristics. It was discovered that the lens would be blocked if the shielding coating was applied using traditional painting methods. Further, a component inside the infrared lens housing was not integrating properly.
Solution:
Seaway Plastics developed a proprietary manufacturing solution that enabled the adhesion of the shielding coating while still maintaining the required lens performance characteristics. Additionally, Seaway acquired the necessary equipment and developed a method for integrating the component into the IR housing.
Results:
The Seaway-developed processes enabled the successful production of the infrared lens, while meeting production cost objectives.
